The Mary Seacole Local Programme

The NHS Leadership Academy Mary Seacole Programme was designed for first-time leaders, equipping them with the foundational knowledge and skills in leadership and management.

Each cohort of the Mary Seacole Local programme runs over six months and includes:

  • An online virtual campus with discussion forums
  • Three face-to-face workshops, or alternatively, six half-day virtual workshops
  • A 90-minute introductory briefing session, typically held before the programme begins

In the North East and Yorkshire the programme is delivered locally by a dedicated team of local facilitators.

We have been successfully running this programme in the region for several years and we are now looking to expand our team of local facilitators to make the programme more widely available.

Requirements of a Mary Seacole Local Facilitator

As a Mary Seacole Local facilitator, you will be expected to:

  • Deliver three face-to-face workshops (or six half-day workshops) for each six-month cohort, using a detailed facilitator guide and materials provided for consistent delivery of the programme content.  Cohort schedules will be arranged in coordination with you and the Mary Seacole Local Coordinator.
  • Dedicate approximately one hour per week to initiating and monitoring discussions on the online virtual campus for each six month cohort.
  • Have prior experience facilitating group sessions

The Mary Seacole Local Mobilisation Training

To enable facilitators to deliver the Mary Seacole Local Programme effectively, they must complete a four-day mobilisation training. This includes three virtual sessions and one in-person day with an NHS Leadership Academy approved Mobiliser trainer.

A detailed Facilitator Role Specification is available and attached with further information.

We ask Facilitators to commit to supporting at least one cohort of the programme within an 18 month period. You’ll have an opportunity to shadow existing cohorts before leading sessions independently and you will be paired with an experienced Facilitator in the early stages for additional support.

Participants must be nominated for this programme. Please complete a nomination form via MS Teams here – Mary Seacole Local Mobilisaiton Training (Cohort 7) Application Form  – Fill in form

To apply, you must have the full support of your organisation’s OD/Training Lead. In return for facilitating a cohort, your organisation will receive five ring-fenced places on the programme. We ask that your organisation nominates individuals to take up these places.

If you have any further queries about the training, please contact Claire Carrick by emailing [email protected]
