Supporting the NHS Workforce: Flexible Working

Posted on:

The NHS Long Term Workforce Plan 2023 has been released and the need to offer flexible working arrangements is very clearly highlighted within this. If you are keen to expand your response to requests to flexible working there is a range of resources available on the Flexible Working Futures page: Flexible working in the NHS – FutureNHS Collaboration Platform.  NHS Employers in partnership with the NHS Staff Council has created a range of scenarios to help. These scenarios have been developed to guide you through the different circumstances relating to flexible working. Please note that the scenarios are for illustrative purposes and therefore might not account for every situation. Flexible working scenarios | NHS Employers

You can support the expansion of this offer by completing the ‘Complex Flexible Working Scenarios’ survey. This closes at the end of August, and all responses will build insight into frequently occurring issues on flexible working and what support would be most helpful. Please share your experience here https://www.smartsurvey.co.uk/s/2BIFW3/

There is also a Flexible Working Network; this provides an opportunity for engaging discussion, sharing of ideas and exploring the ‘wicked issues’ and challenges facing the implementation of flexibility across the NHS. It is open to NHS colleagues with an interest in helping to embed flexibility, and provides an opportunity for two way communication. Following feedback at the last Network event, this session will focus on E-rostering/Self-rostering and how the technology alongside collaborative team processes can enable and support a flexible working culture.
