SUMMARY:Inclusion Conference: Achieving Equality\, Diversity and Inclusion in the Workplace
DESCRIPTION:Achieving Equality\, Diversity and Inclusion in the Workplace \nThe North East and Yorkshire Leadership Academy team invite you to join us in Durham on Tuesday 10th October to explore the top 3 most common challenges in inclusion in our region: \n1. Staff Retention and Work Force – Create an Inclusive Culture \nStaff and talent retention is key for business success. It takes significant time and investment to induct and train new staff\, all of which is lost when the individual leaves. Many organisations attract and recruit diverse staff\, but don’t know how to retain them and build an inclusive culture. Retaining diverse talent means taking meaningful steps to change the overall culture so that individuals feel they can fully contribute\, that they belong. \n2. Networking groups – get resources and senior backing \nWhile many workplaces are creating networking groups focused on EDI employee groups\, it is important these well-intentioned initiatives are executed carefully and sensitively. So how do we ensure these networks are supported and gaining the attraction they need? To avoid these pitfalls\, you need to clearly define and resource these networks and ensure they have the backing of a senior sponsor who can act as a very visible ally. They should be focused on putting forward the views of the minority and making recommendations to the business on how to break down barriers and make progress. \n3. Staff Engagement – Avoid a strand specific approach \nContinued engagement and buy-in to the EDI agenda must start at the top and involve the whole organisation. EDI initiatives need to address intersectionality – the compound layering of disadvantage – if they are to bring everyone into the conversation. How do we avoid isolation and social non interaction? \nOn the day we will explore how we can improve Equality\, Diversity and Inclusion\, by working with you and subject matter expertise – to support you to identify challenges and specific barriers to success\, supporting objectives and how to improve and overcome barriers. \nAgenda to follow. \n
